Joe Alexander, EA, MST, ACAT LTC


Joe was raised in Southwest Portland and attended Tigard High. Graduation from Western State University with a B.A. Business management. He began working for Bookkeepers Business Service in 1984. He Passed IRS special exam in 1985 earning this enrolled credentials and becoming a licensed tax consultant in 1986, In June 1996 he received Master of Science in Taxation with honors for Washington School of Law. To further service his clients Joe received his Accredited business accountant in December of 2000. In Jan 2004 Joe purchase Bookkeeper Business Service and open up Alexander Tax and consulting service. He is able to offer his clients a full range of services including accounting, payroll, tax preparation and tax planning. Joe is a member of the National association of enrolled agents, Oregon Society of enrolled agents and Accredited council for accountancy and taxation.

Enrolled Agents May 8, 1985 to present - An Enrolled Agent is an individual who has demonstrated technical competence in the field of taxation and can represent taxpayers before all administrative levels of the Internal Revenue Service. Enrolled Agents are licensed by the federal government. Only EAs are required to demonstrate to the Internal Revenue Service their competence in matter of taxation before they may represent a taxpayer before the IRS. Unlike attorneys and CPAs, who may or may not choose to specialize in taxes all EAs specialize in matters of taxation. EAs are also the only taxpayer representatives who receive their right to practice from the United States government. (CPAs and attorneys are licensed by the state.)

Katie Alexander, CPA


Katie is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts with a B.A. in Economics-Accounting. She was also a member of the softball team and was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll by the league. She became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the State of Oregon in 2013. Prior to joining Alexander Tax & Consulting she worked at a small regional accounting firm for about seven years. Her experience is in tax preparation and planning, accounting, business consulting, and GAAP financial statement reporting. Katie is a member of the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Certified Public Accountant October 31, 2013 to present - A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a licensed to provide accounting and tax services to the public. It was awarded by each of the 50 states for the practice in that state. Additionally, almost every state (49 out of 50) has passed mobility laws to allow CPAs from other states to practice in their state. Licensing requirements vary state to state, but the minimum standard requirements include passing the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination, 150 semester units or 225 quarter units of college education, and at least one year of accounting related experience.
